2018 Citroën C3 Aircross Road Test, Review

2018 Citroën C3 Aircross

The All-New Citroën C3 Aircross brings a breath of fresh air to the compact SUV segment. Outside, it stands out with unique body styling and personalisation choices, giving it an assertive personality. Inside, it innovates as part of the Citroën Advanced Comfort® programme’s enhanced spaciousness, modular design and brightness. Firmly contemporary, the C3 Aircross is eminently connected and equipped with a range of technologies to make life easier. In short Citroën’s new SUV gives fans of style, well-being and adventure a whole new experience.

The C3 Aircross is a compact SUV distinguished by its powerful, original and fresh attitude, unique body styling fully consistent with the Brand’s latest creations, possessing all the attributes of a robust SUV.

The Aircross was created through the inspiration of Alexandre Malval, Citroën Styling Director. From very first gaze its unique body styling appeals. Compact high-set dimensions (4.15 m long, 1.76 m wide and 1.64 m tall) are well proportioned and showcase flowing and dynamic design lines. Standing firm on large-diameter wheels, the C3 Aircross has ground clearance some 20 mm higher than the New C3, whose platform it shares. Wing extenders and protective skid plates also contribute dynamic and protective SUV styling, reinforcing the car’s adventuresome aspect and singular personality.

2018 Citroën C3 Aircross From front, the C3 Aircross sports Citroën’s classic graphic signature with two-tier lights. The headlamps strengthen the expression of the front end, akin with the Brand’s latest models. Upper LED daytime running lights connect to chevrons via a double chrome strip, to express the entire width of the car. Square-yet-rounded lamps enlivened by a colour surround also house fog lamps.

Rear powerful shoulders emphasise width and muscular character. 3D-effect rear lights spell out the family connection with the new C3 and the C-Aircross concept car. The sophisticated light units are complemented by Gloss Black inserts in the tailgate featuring the two-tone C3 Aircross badge and Gloss Black chevrons, underlining the sense of width while firmly denoting a high-tech nature. Imposing rear bumper topped by protective skid plate echoes the front, re-affirming robustness and SUV spirit. Rear quarter lights made of polycarbonate and layered with coloured film create strong graphic contrast on the C pillar.

The technological and adventurous nature of the new model is underlined by its efficient latest-gen PureTech 3-cylinder engine, which has heightened responsiveness and controlled fuel consumption and emissions, winning “International Engine of the Year” three consecutive years 2015 – 2017 in its category. An EAT6 automatic gearbox ensures maximum driving pleasure and comfort.

At all design stages, the Citroën Advanced Comfort® programme underlines meticulous attention paid to the well-being of body and mind, the practical, generous, warm, convivial character of this people-minded compact SUV. Its ingenious architecture combines compact design outside with outstanding roominess inside.

The All-New C3 Aircross is fully focused on travelling comfort, with perception of space and sense of well-being as key. These sensations on entering the vehicle are aided by the horizontal dash design freeing up space, and the welcoming and comfortable seats, exceptional cabin space, modularity and boot volume.

The high-set architecture of the C3 Aircross brings the most spacious interior in the segment and outstanding comfort, with five seats, generous leg room, segment leader in terms of ceiling height, front and rear head room, all passengers fully at ease, and remarkable rear knee room thanks to a 2.6 metre wheelbase. The Aircross has the largest boot in the segment at 410 litres, easily accessed via broad rear window, large-opening tailgate and low loading sill.

2018 Citroën C3 Aircross Another essential component in travelling comfort is storage space, the Aircross benefiting from a range of storage compartments, the central console designed to store a smartphone, with special dock and wireless charging. There are also storage spaces in glove box, front and rear doors.

The New Citroën C3 Aircross aims to optimise travelling comfort and make each journey pleasant and convivial by filtering out all outside disturbances, cocoon-like. The standard-setting on board the C3 Aircross has superior suspension system for ride comfort and meticulous soundproofing and acoustics for Sound comfort.

Connectivity and infotainment come via 7-inch touchscreen (air conditioning, radio, telephone controls, and multimedia content and smartphone apps); there is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, with Mirror Screen function, wireless induction charging for a wide range of smartphones, with special docking area.
